For The Running Works OFSAA Poll #1 rankings go to the TnF North Home Page or click on the link above Trinity was the first big cross-country meet of the season where the heavy favorites went up against each other in both the senior boys and girls races. The senior girls race pitted the two top favourites in the province against each other, Rachel Faulds and Jamie Phelan. For the entire race Rachel and Jamie were never more than a few strides apart and battled each other the entire way before Jamie out kicked Rachel in the final 400m. Those two along with Heather Petrick broke away early from the field and layed down a blistering pace which eventually dropped Heather Patrick. But Heather who ended up only 7 seconds back of the duo showed herself to be one of the top contenders in the province and should probably get some votes in the next coaches poll. In the end both Jamie and Rachel broke the old course record. in the girls team category Thousand Islands won easily scoring only 71 points compared to the 121 points of the second place Crothers team. There were no surprises here as Thousand Islands was the only ranked team present at the meet on the girls side. There were however lots of surprises on the guys side. Although Mclaughlin showed up to the meet they did not bring their big guns for the senior boys race which left it wide open. The next two teams according to the coaches poll would have been Courtice and Thousand Islands but St. Mike's showed they deserve a little more respect from the coaches at the next poll as they easily won the meet with strong runs from Messina and Knight, Courtice ended up finishing third and TISS fourth. The big surprise on the men's side however was the performance of General Panet who weren't even on the radar in the coaches poll or pre season analysis but ended up a strong second place here on the strength of 3 top 20 runs Ty Lebannister, Sam Serviss and Brandon Royce. They will certainly garner more recognition from the coaches on the second poll in early October. In the senior boys individual race a large pack came through the opening 4K pretty close together before Ben Flanigan surged and opened up a gap on the field. he continued to open that gap throughout the second loop eventually winning by over 20 seconds. Nick Holden ended up in second place followed by Eric Wynands, Philip Messina, and Nathan Ackerman. Second to fifth were all within 6 seconds of one another. Prerace co-favorite Jeremy Coughler obviously had and off day as he faded badly during the second loop of the course and did not look well at the finish. In the end Rachel, Jamie and Ben all showed they are fit and ready to race. The thousand Island girls team showed they are not as weak as some might of thought them to be although they do have many injuries they looked very good at Trinity. On the men's side both St. Mike's and General Planet showed they are ready to battle for the top spots at OFSAA this year

@coachc1 I think you were looking at results from last year for SG. Rachel and Carlee were 1-2 again but Trenton High won the senior girls race over Quinte and East Northumberland. Rachel was 1:23 up on Carlee who was just over a minute ahead of Olivia Patton of ENSS. Alexandra Rainville did not run for ENSS or their team would have won.

@Stingersxc No idea of the team scoring there. Ben was my only athlete racing there and he went down with his high school coach. I haven't been there in years, but what a meet!

@coachc1 Hey Coach Where are the actual ranking for the girls? I am a little slow on the uptake here. I have jumped in here late but dont see an actual ranking of the individuals or teams just mention of rankings. Thanks

They are on the home page under the same title but you have to go back to older posts since it was originally posted 2 weeks ago. Here is the link to the actual rankings themselves, this page is just for comments and updates http://can.milesplit.com/articles/92483-tnfnorth-ofsaa-poll-1-presented-by-the-running-works Results from Poll #2 should come out this week once everyone gets their selections in.
