Vancouver Sun Run
Vancouver, BC (April 21, 2013) – With many sporting colours of blue and yellow in honour of the Boston Marathon, the 2013 Vancouver Sun Run was another jubilant celebration of health, fitness and community spirit with 48,196 registered. From start to finish, participants gave it their all while enjoying the spectacular beauty of running the largest 10K in Canada.
Paul Kimugul from Kenya claimed the victory in the Men’s Overall Division with a time of 29:04. Finishing second overall was Ian Burrell of Tucson, Arizona with a time of 29:17. Officially placing third overall was Edwin Kaitany of Kenya clocking 29:36. Clifford Childs of Victoria claimed the Top Canadian Male spot with 30:09.
In the Women's Overall Division, Natasha Fraser of Port Moody, BC claimed a repeat and took first place for the second year in a row with a time of 32:42 also taking the top Canadian Female honours. Lindsey Scherf of Chapel Hill, North Carolina finished second with a time of 33:01. Lioudmila Kortchaguina from Toronto clocked in as third female overall and second Canadian Female with her time of 33:25.
The prize purse of $25,000 is allocated as follows:
Top three Overall Male and Female - $3,000, $1,500 and $750.
Top five Canadian Male and Female - $2,500, $1,500, $1,000, $500, and $250.
Top three Male and Female Overall Masters - $750, $500 and $250.
