Outdoor Highlights: April 25-April 29

A pair of relay meets highlighted this week's action for April 25-30th. Des Moines hosted the 103rd annual Drake Relays while Philadelphia was the site of the oldest and largest track competition in the US, 118th annual Penn Relays. The Drake Relays saw two collegiate best marks set as well as one meet record.

In Friday's session, Oklahoma junior Tia Brooks won the shot put in a Drake Relays record and collegiate-leading throw of 60 feet, 7.25 inches. Note Dame women posted the fastest time in the country on way to victory in the 4x800 at 8 minutes, 35.89 seconds.

Penn Relays drew in 112,416 fans over the three-day competition. Penn State men had the best showing of the relays having won two Championship of America relay titles, including the 4x800 (7:19.76) and sprint medley (3:18.47). The Nittany Lions also won individual championships with Joe Kovacs (shot put, 65-5), Lauren Kenney (javelin,160-8) and Melissa Kurzdorfer (hammer, 205-1)

M-10000: Last week's MileSplit U National Performer of the Week, Southern Utah's Cameron Levins, hit an Olympic A standard and world-leader winning in 27:27.96. Chris Derrick of Stanford was second in 27:31.38 (American Collegiate Record).
W-Steeplechase: Colorado's Shalaya Kipp won in a collegiate-leading time of 9:43.09.
W-1500: Florida's Cory McGee had the fastest collegiate time of the day at 4:12.61 (third).
M-1500: Lawi Lalang ran the nation's fastest time of 3:36.77 in a fourth-place finish against the pros.
