Marc Baroncini, Katie Clute Net Week 1 Top Performer Honors

Following the closure of our first set of 'Performer of the Week' polls for the 2020 XC season, it was Marc Baroncini and Katie Clute who pocketed the top spots in the voting standings.

Baroncini, a senior from Perrysburg, opened his cross country campaign with a 1st place showing at Defiance due to his mark of 16:07.94. Not only did he earn the individual honor in his debut race for 2020, but he also led the Yellow Jackets to a team victory with their 45 point output.

Baroncini was the 9th place finisher at the 2019 OHSAA Division 1 State Championship meet, where he produced a career best time of 15:41.40 for the 5k distance.

Katie Clute opened her season on the first day of competition (Monday, August, 24th) with an emphatic win at the Keystone Ice Breaker

The sophomore from Olmsted Falls was well over 2 minutes clear of her nearest competition, as she dropped a career best mark of 17:59.40. Clute had a strong freshman campaign with several sub-20 minute 5k performances on her record, but the improvement she demonstrated in her opener stands out on the state's leaderboard. She's ranked No. 1 in Ohio and is one of just sixteen girls nation-wide who have gone under the 18 minute benchmark to this point in 2020.

Clute's effort last week also helped propel her Bulldogs team to first place at the meet, where they posted a 37 point total.
