Armstrong locks up Diamond League title
OTTAWA - Kamloops, B.C.’s Dylan Armstrong took first in the shot put at the Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League today in Switzerland with a throw of 21.63 metres. The win brings his total to 17 points in the shot put Diamond League. He has all but locked up the 2011 Diamond League shot put title, needing only to show up and participate in the Final to claim his winnings. Reese Hoffa of the United States who is in second place can’t catch Armstrong in the standings.

The Diamond League Finale is set for September 16 in Brussels, Belgium. Aside from the Diamond League shot put title he will be honoured with a diamond encrusted trophy and a cash prize. Armstrong’s triumph will mark the second year in a row in which a Canadian athlete captures top billing in the Diamond League. In 2010 it was Priscilla Lopes-Schliep who took the inaugural Diamond League title in the 100-metre hurdles.
