PHILADELPHIA -- Benjamin Shue shouldn't ever have a problem knowing what time it is.
For the second time in his career, Shue earned a prestigious gold watch for finishing as the top American finisher in the discus at Friday's 128th Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Shue, a junior at Bergen Catholic, unloaded a 201-11, his best throw in the competition, on his second throw in the final round to briefly take the lead. But Chad Hendricks of Munro College in Jamaica threw bombs of 207-0 and 217-1 on hos last two attempts to secure the win.
Shue also earned a gold watch here when he placed third overall and was the top American as a freshman in 2022 and he placed fourth here last year.
"He (Hendricks) threw great today,'' said the University of Texas-bound Shue. "I would have liked to have thrown further and gotten a new PR, but throwing over 200 and getting second here is a good result. My biggest goal is the state record (218-4 set by Olympian Sam Mattis of East Brunswick in 2012). I know I have some really big throws in me and they are coming. I just have to keep working hard, lifting, and working on my technique. I'm going to work as hard as possible to get that record.''
