On paper you could call it a mixed day for Wilkinson at the PA State Champs. Her only title was in the DMR, but she had a busy day with three events. She was second to Marlee Starliper in the mile, but we know Wilkinson in capable of going much faster than a 4:52. In her runner-up finish in the 800m Wilkinson ran a 2:09, which is top five in the country.
5
Good to see Katelyn Tuohy over her illness from earlier in the season. She ran a 4:23 to break Mary Cain's sophomore class record in the 1500m.

Britton Wilson won two more VA State Titles last week. Her 300m and 500m times were just barely off of her current US #1 marks in both events.
9
Good weekend for Shadajah Ballard, though she was beaten in the 55m and 300m by rising sprint star Hannah Waller.

Thelma Davies added more PA State titles to her resume in the 60m and 200m. She broke her own state record in the 60m, and beat some strong runners in the 200m.
13
Nyjari McNeil and the Franklin squad continue to prove they're going to be a force in the 4x400m. McNeil also won the 500m and 800m in her class of the MD state champs.

Very impressive double for Marlee Starliper to earn two PA State Championship wins. She beat Gabrielle Wilkinson in a new US #2 4:43 mile time and also ran the fourth fastest time of the year in the 3000m.

22
Superb times out of Hannah Waller who beat Shadajah Ballard in the 55m and 300m.
23
Kori Carter did a little bit of everything as the star athlete on this year's WAR squad. She won her VA state race in the 55m and 4x2, and was second in the 300m and high jump.

Under normal circumstances we would view Katherine Lee's 4:35 1500m last week as a stellar performance, but it was overshadowed a bit by Tuohy's 4:23.

27
Strong 600m performance from Watson who is looking good ahead of the NY State Champs.
28
Sydni Townsend was third in the 200m at the PA State Meet, but she's not going to drop in the MileSplit50. Townsend was able to win in the 400m, and her team swept the 4x2 and 4x4 with some impressive times.
29
Victoria Starcher's crazy couple weeks of racing just isn't slowing down at all! She now takes over as the fastest athlete in the country over 3200m.
30
During a busy week of racing in the Northeast, Friborg holds her spot in the rankings helped by a US #2 performance in the 1000m.
31
Easy win in the mile for Olivere at Eastern States.
32
Outta nowhere Athing Mu drops a huge nation leading 2:06 in the 800m!

One good way to get noticed is by beating one of the best athletes in the country. That's exactly what Esther Seeland did with a win over Gabrielle Wilkinson to score a state title in the 800m.

It's like all of a sudden all the good 800m runners decided they were going to run fast this week. We went from not having anyone under 2:10 to four athletes breaking that barrier in a few days.
44
Christina Warren launches herself back into the MileSplit50 with a dominant win at the PA State Champs in the 60H. She advanced into the US top ten with her time and also jumper 40'+ in the triple jump four times.

EXPLAINING MILESPLIT50:

These are subjective rankings of the top 50 athletes across all indoor track and field events. Feel free to reach out to MileSplit via email (travis.miller@flosports.tv) or on Twitter (@milesplit or @TravisMillerFlo)

Here are the attributes MileSplit considered when ranking athletes (in no particular order):

- IAAF points for ballpark numbers to compare performances across different events

- PRs

- Returning indoor track & field rankings

- Significant wins/results in previous indoor seasons

- More weight on "championship" events (I took stats and performances from ALL events into consideration, but championship events are more important at the national level)

- Participation in relays

- 2018 indoor track & field results

- Indoor competition frequency (these are rankings for indoor track & field, not necessarily the best all around XC/indoor/outdoor athletes)
