MileSplit50 Girls Indoor 2018

Rank Athlete/Team Comments

LTT moves back to the top spot in the MileSplit50. She's had a couple of great back to back weeks and keeps getting close to the 22' mark in the long jump.

Really was hoping Masai Russell would get into the fast section of the 200m at UK, but she was in the second heat. She still ended up third overall in the event and a fifth place finish in the loaded 60H after her first time competing in that event.

After more fast times in the 60m and 400m this weekend, Minor confirmed that she will be competing at nationals. This will be a first time for her and means she's could challenge for the top spot in the MileSplit50 with some big wins.

11
Phenomenal start to the season for Hart who in a matter of hours runs the fastest two mile time of the season and a top five time in the mile while holding off Victoria Starcher.

Tia Jones was beaten by Grace Stark at UK, but her time was still one of the fastest by any athlete so far this season.
15
Motivated by her third place finish earlier in the day on Saturday, Abby Steiner bounced back and absolutely dominated the UK Invite 200m final in 23.65.
16
Shaniya Hall had the second fastest time behind Abby Steiner in the 200m at UK and was fourth in the 400m.
17
Now this is where it starts to get tricky. Athletes in the south are now getting into outdoor season while still aiming for indoor nationals. Relevant outdoor performances will be considered in the indoor MileSplit50. ie. Jasmine Moore's 20-5 long jump PR over the weekend moves her up, and her 100m time is ignored.
18
Decent outing for Leah Phillips against tough competition at UK who finish sixth or better in the 200m and 60H.

Meghan Hunter got handed a loss over the weekend in the 400m, but can't fault her for losing to Arria Minor. Running with Minor helped pull her to a new 53.9 PR in the 400m.

EXPLAINING MILESPLIT50:

These are subjective rankings of the top 50 athletes across all indoor track and field events. Feel free to reach out to MileSplit via email (travis.miller@flosports.tv) or on Twitter (@milesplit or @TravisMillerFlo)

Here are the attributes MileSplit considered when ranking athletes (in no particular order):

- IAAF points for ballpark numbers to compare performances across different events

- PRs

- Returning indoor track & field rankings

- Significant wins/results in previous indoor seasons

- More weight on "championship" events (I took stats and performances from ALL events into consideration, but championship events are more important at the national level)

- Participation in relays

- 2018 indoor track & field results

- Indoor competition frequency (these are rankings for indoor track & field, not necessarily the best all around XC/indoor/outdoor athletes)
