MileSplit50 Girls Indoor 2018

Rank Athlete/Team Comments
1
Thomas was my #1 even before looking at 2018 results. Top returner in the LJ, top 5 in the 55m and 200m, top 10 in the 300m. Last year she earned a state championship title and two top 5 finishes at Nationals. This season she's already over 20' in the LJ, run sub-7s in the 55m and under 39s in the 300m.
2
Tuohy is the top returner in the 1K, 1500m, and mile. We've seen the massive leap she made during the XC season. If we see similar improvements on the track, then many more records will fall.
3
Davies earned PA State Titles in the 60m and 200m last year. She also sprinted to a 3rd place finish in the 60m at Nationals. She is the top returning athlete in the 60m and #3 in the 200m.

CO
Switch Thelma Davies' returning rankings and you get Arria Minor at #3 in the 60m and #1 in the 200m. After storming onto the national scene two years ago, Minor has solidified herself as one of the best sprinters in the country.
5
It will be interesting to see if Chmiel will be able to challenge Tuohy on the track. Chmiel has the fastest returning times in the 2 mile and 3000m. She's also top 5 in the 1500m and mile. On top of her individual talent, she will be a big contributor on Saratoga's nationally ranked relays.
6
#1 returner in the 300m and 400m, along with a 500m #3. Wilson was third in the 400m at Nationals last year and already has a 1:15 500m this season.
7
Russell is a top ten returner in multiple events. She consistently had strong finishes at big events including Bishop Loughlin, Marine Corps, VA Showcase, Millrose, and Nationals.
8
The Shen senior is the top returner in the 800m after finishing 3rd at Nationals in 2017. She has decent range through the mid-distance events as the #4 returner in the 1K and #9 in the 1500m. Reale helped her team finish 3rd in the DMR and 4x800m at Nationals last year.
9
Peace is a talented sprinter but was beaten by Davies in the 60m and 200m at the PA State Meet. With a strong group of athletes lower in the rankings, Peace will have to get back to her 2016 form to stay in the top ten.
10
Moore has broken just about every class record in the triple jump. She's the #1 returner and defending National Champion. While she's the #3 returner in the long jump, she actually beat LTT at Nationals last year.
11
Taylor is the top sprinter in NJ and will look to prove that she can compete with the elite this season. She has top ten returning times in the 55m and 400m. She competed well at Millrose, NJ MOC, and Easterns. Her 2018 season began at Bishop Loughlin this weekend where she PRed in the 300m by over two seconds.
12
Semira Killebrew ran 7.49 to win the EE 60m at Nationals and mark her as the #6 returner in the event. She has already set a PR by running 7.46 earlier this month. That time is impressive considering that it's faster than what Jayla Kirkland ran in December last year, and Kirkland would go on to win Nationals in 7.27.
13
Last year's 60H finals at the National Championship was loaded with seniors. The two exceptions were Tia Jones and Grace Stark. Stark is the #2 returner in the 60H and just outside the top 15 in the 60m.
14
There are plenty of quality sprinters in Georgia but Lester separated herself from the rest with her 4th place finish at Nationals in the 400m. Sterling lost in three events at the Galleria Games over the weekend, but PRed in the 60m.
15
Sipsey is the #4 returner in the 400m and started her season with a 56s win at the Galleria Games. She also ran 24.4 to break Cassondra Hall's meet record.
16
She's the #1 returner in the 60H after her 3rd place finish at Nationals. She starts outside of the top 15 in the MileSplit50 because she rarely races indoors.
17
Brown is one of the many Texas athletes who don't get many opportunities indoor. She did make the trip up to NYC last year and finished just outside of qualifying for the 60m and 200m finals. She returns as the 60m #2 and 200m #10.
18
Hopefully this year we see Richardson race at some bigger indoor events. She's the #4 returner in the 200m and #6 in the 60m. Her marks even more impressive when you consider that she only ran one 200m race last year.
19
Simmons is in the same situation as Richardson. One of the top ranked sprinters, but there's minimal racing in Texas indoors.
20
The Texas A&M commit is a dominant sprinter, but she may fall out of the top 20 if she only races a handful of events like last year. As one of the top returners in the 200m, look for her to race for the national lead at her future home track at the A&M Invite in January(Live on MileSplit).
21
After missing the 2017 indoor season Gabrielle Wilkinson is BACK! She ran a 4:56 mile to get her 2018 campaign going over the weekend. If she's back in form...watch out! She's a 4:53 miler with 2:06 800m speed. She wont stay outside the top 20 for long.
22
With all the talented distance runners in NY, Timm flies under the radar at the national level. This could be her year. She was 3rd in the mile at Nationals last year and is the #2 returner. She's already gone sub-5 behind Wilkinson in the mile this season.
23
Gaughan had a strong 2017 season which included a 7th place finish at Nationals. She's a top ten returner in the mile, 3K, and 2 mile. She most recently finished 5th at Foot Locker Nationals.
24
There's no question that Sloan is one of the top hurdlers in the nation, but her range is better suited to the longer hurdle events outdoors. If she gets back to her 2016 form and race schedule, she'll soon start moving up the rankings.
25
Jenna Crean does a little bit of everything. She's the #2 returner in the 300m and #9 in the 60m. She races up to the 400m and actually began her 2018 season with a PR in the 600m.
26
Steiner is the #7 returner in the 200m and defending OH State Champ. She'll be battling with McKenzie Long to be the top ranked OH sprinter this season.
27
Long won the OH State Championship in the 60m and was 2nd in the 200m last year. Her 2018 racing is already underway with a US #4 7.68 in the 60m.
28
Anna Hall is the defending National Champion in the pentathlon but can hold her own in the individual events as well. She's the #2 returner in the HJ and won the 400m at Great Southwest Indoor.
29
#2 returner in the 500m and #7 in the 600m. To move her up, I'll have to see her race more against ranked competition. She has started the season on a good note by winning the Bishop Louglin 600m in a US #1 1:33.43, just .01s off her PR from 2016.
30
Brooke Jaworski is the lone Wisconsin athlete in the boys or girls MileSplit50. She competed in just one 400m race before Nationals last year but still went on to finish 7th in the final. She's also the #6 overall returner in the event.
31
Lee is a top ten returner in the 600m, mile, 3K, and 2 mile. She had a huge 3rd place finish at Foot Locker Nationals, but she has not yet raced at Nationals indoor, or too many significant meets.
32
Not just a top ten returner in the 60H, but also the TJ and LJ. Langley-Walker has executed well plenty of times with a State Title, State podiums, and top 20 finishes at nationals.
33
Simon only runs a handful of races during the indoor season, but she makes them count. Her 54.5 puts her at #5 on the 400m returning list.
34
Connolly won two MA state titles last year and finished 6th in the mile at Nationals. She enters the season #5 on the returning mile list and #15 for the 2 mile.
35
Forsyth was 10th in the mile at Nationals and is #12 among all returners.
36
After losing much of her XC season to injury, we should see a nice resurgence for Holt indoors. She has plenty of track creds as the #6 returner in the mile and just outside the top 15 in both the 1K and 2 mile.
37
Savchik was 6th in the 2 mile at Nationals last year. The only returning athlete to beat her was Chmiel.
38
Diggs has been a strong presence in the indoor sprints. Her 2018 season has begun with a 55m win at the Bishop Loughlin Games.
39
Boone is a top 15 returner in both the 60m and LJ. She won both events over the weekend at the Galleria Games.
40
Green has strong returning marks in the 60m and 200m. She finished 2nd at the Galleria Games in the 60m just .01s behind Boone. Green has stronger returning performances and could easily move up the MileSplit50 this season.
41
There's not much of an indoor season in Illinois, but Hart makes the most of her sporadic races. She returns at #3 in the 2 mile, #11 in the mile, and #15 in the 800m.
42
Annie Hill was 3rd in the 5K at Nationals last year and also has one of the top 15 fastest returning times in the 2 mile.
43
Aldridge doesn't have any major wins from last season but performed well in the 2 mile at Nationals.
44
It gets tough at this point in the rankings because good athletes get stuck towards the back. Peoples is very talented and returns with the fastest time in the 600m. She hasn't opened yet this season but don't be surprised if you see her rise in the coming weeks.
45
Virtually impossible to get two athletes from the same team into the MileSplit50, but Bullis makes it happen with the Masai Russel/Ashley Seymour combo. Seymour is a major contributor on the Bullis relays and already has two strong top three finishes in the 55m and 300m at AT&T.
46
Warren has strong performances in the Lj and TJ but she really stands out indoors in the 60H. She's #10 on the returning list for the hurdles.
47
Ewert finished 2nd in the one mile walk at Nationals last year in 7:06, shattering the freshman national record. She also showed major improvement during XC with a 18th finish at NXN.
48
Burnett is the #4 returner in the 60m and took off during the 2017 outdoor season, but she only raced at one indoor meet last year.
49
Athing Mu only competed in the EE sections at Nationals in 2017l, but that should change this year. She enters the 2018 season as the #2 returner in the 800m and has some decent range being able to race from the 400m up to the mile.
50
Hall is a strong sprinter and defending AL State Champ in the 60m.

EXPLAINING MILESPLIT50:

This is the first ever release of the MileSplit50 indoor track rankings. These are subjective rankings of the top 50 athletes across all indoor track and field events. The more information I have, the more accurate these rankings will be. Feel free to reach out to me via email (travis.miller@flosports.tv) or on Twitter (@TravisMillerFlo)

Here are the attributes I considered when ranking athletes (in no particular order):

- IAAF points for ballpark numbers to compare performances across different events

- PRs

- Returning indoor track & field rankings

- Significant wins/results in previous indoor seasons

- More weight on "championship" events (I took stats and performances from ALL events into consideration, but championship events are more important at the national level)

- Participation in relays

- 2018 indoor track & field results

- Indoor competition frequency (these are rankings for indoor track & field, not necessarily the best all around XC/indoor/outdoor athletes)
